Seeing the cathedral is part of the trip. Getting to know a city also happens when someone says: “Come in. Fancy a drink?”
Our hidden gem is on the seventh floor of a block of flats. People live here, there’s a sofa, and today there’s room for you. Get chatting with A.A. and KW5, play a round and later look out over the rooftops together. Ask whatever you’ve always wanted to know about Cologne. We certainly don’t know everything. But we’re happy to talk about it.
We play Wii Golf. No handicap certificate, no club membership and no questions about what your father does for a living. You get a controller and an opponent who takes his living-room career very seriously. First-timer or seasoned player, you’re in. The ball is virtual. The joy of a good shot, the laughter and KW5’s ambition are very real.
The grass is digital. The ambition, unfortunately, is real.

01 / Arrival
Ring KW5 at the front entrance. Behind the glass door are the lift and stairs. If you’re lucky, the lift works. Sometimes it’s broken – then it’s seven floors on foot.
The stairs have proved exceptionally reliable so far.
02 / Welcome
Lift or stairs: A.A. awaits you with delicious canapés. He then escorts you to the flat. For the next two hours, he is entirely your butler.
Take the stairs and you get the same service. Just later.
03 / Tee-off
K.W., known as KW5, is waiting at the apartment door. Controller in hand, golf on the TV, cathedral through the window. Countless matches. Every weather condition. One living room. You get your controller. Then it’s game on: 18 holes.
That concludes your induction.
04 / Refreshments
While you play for your dignity, A.A. takes care of your wellbeing. Ipanema or KiBa? It’s all you can drink during your 120 minutes. From a carton, naturally. In a glass, if you prefer.
You take care of the next shot. A.A. takes care of the next refill.
05 / The view
After your round, step onto the balcony. Cologne is at your feet. An optional smoke, a chat and a moment to enjoy the view. Just keep an eye on the time.
After 120 minutes, every extra minute costs. KW5 isn’t cheap.
